Brewing Up Bakes With The Baking Brewer

The Baking Brewer is the ultimate combination of two of life's greatest pleasures: beer and baked goods. When asked about how she got the idea to infuse beer into her baking, founder, and baker extraordinaire, Meghin, explains that her love for both brewing and baking led her to combine the two. She wanted to showcase beer in the same way that food is often paired with wine. Meghin has been baking for almost two decades and started The Baking Brewer in January 2020. Born and raised in the Lakeland-Plant City area, Meghin is a true Florida native with a talent for creating unique and delicious treats.

Meghin was the Assistant Brewer at Swan Brewing when she realized that she loved brewing but had stopped experimenting and brewing beer at home because she was doing it for a living. So, she decided that she needed a new hobby and wanted to get back into baking. Meghin used to have a baking side hustle in her early 20s and wanted to combine her two favorite things, baking & beer. She realized that while you see a lot of wine and food pairings, you don't see much of it with beer, and she wanted to change that. And thus, The Baking Brewer was born.

Meghin fell in love with baking when she found a cupcake book when she was young that made cupcakes look like different things — like spaghetti and meatballs or cheeseburgers or different animals — and she was hooked. She started The Baking Brewer started as a cute hobby and then grew into something amazing. Meghin's favorite part of running her own business is building a sense of community with the incredible people that support her. She loves getting to know everyone and being able to create something that people enjoy. Starting something that was hers became so much sweeter when she got to share it with people.

One of the most challenging bakes Meghin has done was last December when she was the busiest she had ever been. She was working with multiple different breweries, doing holiday boxes for Catapult, holiday boxes for a couple of large companies, attending markets, completing orders for customers, and more. She was literally a baking zombie. Then one day a batch of chocolate chip cookies went wrong. Meghin had made chocolate chip cookies a zillion times in her life, but the batch somehow went haywire. She called her sister and husband, and they immediately dropped everything to help her redo them. Meghin still doesn’t know what happened to that batch, but that moment was so inspiring. It made her realize that sometimes, even if you’ve done a bake a million times, you occasionally have to ask for help. And that can be difficult for a Capricorn like Meghin.

Meghin's dream is to open up her own place - a fun, relaxing place where people can get together for delicious food, bakes, and definitely a beer. She plans to continue working with local breweries and expand her offerings to more markets and events. If you haven't tried The Baking Brewer's delicious beer-infused baked goods, you can find Meghin every Wednesday serving brunch at Catapult from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. You can also find Meghins bakes at Swan Brewing, Blue Dog Craft BBQ, or you can place a custom order on her website!
